Youth soccer opportunities planned in Elkhart, Goshen

SOCCER

Elkhart Youth Soccer: Signups for the 2016 youth league season will be staged Jan. 30 at Elkhart Sports Center. The registration session runs from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Divisions offered include age 3, 4-5, 6-7, 8-9, 10-12. Fees are $75 for athletes 3-year-olds, $125 for ages 4-12. Players registered in January also can participate in free academy camps March 5, 12, 19 and 26. Registrations can also be done online at www.eyssoccer.com through April 10. League practices will begin April 11.

Goshen Youth Tournament: An indoor youth soccer tournament, sponsored by the Goshen College soccer program, has been set for Saturday, March 5. The 5-on-5 games will include U10 to U14 age divisions. Team can includes up to nine athletes, but can only be registered for one team per group. The cost is $100 and registrations must be turned in by Feb. 29. SOFTBALL

Elkhart Blaze Tryouts: Tryouts for the 2016 season will be staged Saturday, Jan. 30 at Elkhart Central High School in the new gym. The sessions are for to girls who will be attending Central High School at the 12U and 14U levels. Registration will take place at 11:30 a.m. with workouts set for noon-2 p.m. For more information email to flashsoftball05@frontier.com.

Goshen Youth Camp: A softball camp for girls in grades 5-8 will be staged Feb. 20 and Feb. 27 at Goshen High School. Sessions will run 9:30 am. to noon in the GHS Warehouse located just north of the Goshen administration building next to the high schooo. The cost is $25 per player or $20 per player if there is more than one athlete per family. The camp will focus on proper hitting and throwing techniques and fielding fundamentals. FOOTBALL

Sharpley Training QB camps: A pair of quarterback camps are planned for Saturday, Jan. 30 at Sharpley Training. A high school camp with former Notre Dame quarterback Evan Sharpley is set for 9 a.m. to noon. Certified barre instructor Jackie Sharpley will also instruct in areas of balance, core, stretching, hip mobility and stabilization. A middle-school academy will follow from 1 to 4 pm., with ex-ND quarterback Ron Powlus joining Evan Sharpley for that one. Each camp is $100 with space limited. BASEBALL

Northern Indiana Cardinals 14U: The Cardinals are forming a new 14U team. Any player who will turn 15 after May 1 is eligible to try out. Tryouts are conducted upon request. For more information, call 574-850-9579 or email n.cardinals@aol.com.

VOLLEYBALL

Notre Dame camps: Two skills camps and a high school team camp are offered under the direction of Irish coach Jim McLaughlin. The first skills camp is for grades 9-12 (as of fall 2016) and set for July 12-14. the other is for grades 6-9 and is July 18-20. The high school team camp is July 15-17. Skills camps are $375 for boarders, $315 for non, plus processing. Team camp prices are $355 and $315, plus processing. For more information, visit ndvbcamps.com.
