NSA girls fast-pitch state tournament planned throughout weekend in Elkhart

ELKHART — Softballs will be flying at Elkhart venues this weekend as the National Softball Association’s Indiana North State 16U and 18U girls fast-pitch tournaments are staged.

The 16U event features at least 22 teams from around mostly northern Indiana, while the 18U event has 12 teams registered.

Riverview Park, Pierre Moran Park and the Elkhart Central softball diamonds will serve as game sites. Pool play will be followed by double-elimination play, per Elkhart softball director Ed Bellows.

The event was to open Friday, June 19, at 5 p.m. with several 16U games planned at all three venues, the last of those starting at 9:30 p.m.

On Saturday, virtually continual play is scheduled with 8 a.m. through 9:30 p.m. starting times on the four Riverview diamonds. More games feature 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. starts at Central.

On Sunday, play gets underway at 8 a.m. at Riverview. Championships are at 6:30 p.m. at Riverview, with the “if necessary” games to follow.

In all, 99 to 101 games are expected to be played.

Admission to all games is free. Elkhart Mayor Dick Moore is slated to help kick off Sunday’s rounds with a 7:45 a.m. appearance.
