Senior guard Sam Smith scored 17 points and hit a big 3-point shot late, as Northridge defeated Valparaiso 44-40, in a non-conference boys basketball game on Saturday night.

Smith hit five 3-points on the night, while backcourt mate Carter Stoltzfus added four treys and also finished with 17 points. A free throw by Jesse Ryman with seven seconds left gave the Raiders (14-4) their four-point lead.
