Boys basketball roundup: Fairfield escapes in OT; Elkhart Christian wins home opener

Luke Stephens scored 24 points, dealt eight assists and during overtime went 8-for-8 at the line as Fairfield outlasted host Lakeland 61-59 in boys high school basketball Tuesday.

Cordell Hofer added 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Falcons, who improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the Northeast Corner Conference.

Fairfield went up five in OT before the Lakers hit a 3 at the final buzzer.

Elkhart Christian improved to 2-1 by posting a 68-45 win over Prairie Heights.

Weston Sage led ECA in its home opener with 20 points. Jon Burns added 13 rebounds, six assists and three steals for the Eagles

Penn opened its Northern Indiana Conference schedule with a 73-66 win over visiting South Bend Clay. Noah Krathwohl scored 19 points and Noah Applegate 17 to pace the Kingsmen (1-2, 1-0).

Despite 21 points and 10 rebounds from Sam Pawlak, Jimtown (0-2, 0-1 NIC) fell 59-45 at South Bend Washington.

Cory McKinney led a balanced Panther offense with 14 points. Washington outscored Jimtown 40-20 in the second half.

Nathan Stutzman, Caleb Schrock and Benson Yoder each scored 16 points to lead Clinton Christian past LaLumiere Blue 75-41. The Couriers improved to 4-1.
