NEW CARLISLE — The Elkhart Lions may have been “really rusty” at times physically and mentally, per coach Josh Shattuck’s assessment, but there was no emotional rust within this team, per senior linebacker Roderick Ballard’s.

“We were hyped up for two weeks straight, and when you’re hyped up for two weeks straight, you’re like a caged bull,” Ballard declared after Elkhart wrapped up a perfect regular season and a Northern Indiana Conference East-West Division co-title with a 28-7 high school football victory over New Prairie on Friday night at Amzie Miller Field.
