A potential first-rounder and two local prospects highlight Friday’s predraft workouts at the Detroit Pistons practice facility.
Kentucky point guard Tyler Ulis, who appears to be falling down draft boards, topped the list as the only potential first-rounder.
Michigan State combo guard Bryn Forbes and Oakland shooting guard Max Hooper also tried to make their cases today.
Ulis was a projected first-rounder, but suddenly some mock drafts have him falling to the second round. DraftExpress.com has him going in the second round to the Phoenix Suns with the 34th overall pick.
Teams question Ulis’ size (5 feet 9, 149 pounds) and a recent BasketballInsiders.com report from Steve Kyler says Ulis has a “pretty significant” hip issue that may require surgery down the line.
Ulis scoffed at the report Friday.
“I’ve never had hip pain, my hips are fine,” Ulis said. “I just worked out two times and nothing bothered me, but I honestly don’t know what it was. My hips are fine.”
Forbes and Hooper both are unlikely to be drafted.
The Pistons have a first-round pick (18th overall) and second rounder (49th). The NBA draft is Thursday.
