SYRACUSE — Angola posted a late rally Monday to lift the Hornets past NorthWood, 4-2, in the championship game of the Class 3A baseball sectional at Wawasee High School.
The loss snapped the Panthers streak of six straight years of winning sectional titles.
The Hornets scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to erase a 2-0 deficit.
Angola's first run came home on an RBI double from Aaron Chao. The Hornets took the lead on a suicide squeeze bunt and scored their final run on a wild pitch.
Matt Dutkowski's sacrifice fly gave NorthWood a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
The Panthers took a 2-0 lead in the fifth after scoring on an Angola throwing error.
Alec Holcomb didn't allow his first baserunner until two outs in the fifth when David Frank singled for the Hornets.
Holcomb struck out eight, while Chao fanned 12. Both pitchers allowed only three hits. Dutkowski issued no walks, while Chao had one.
NorthWood finishes at 17-8, while Angola takes a 17-8 record into regional semifinal play.
