A pair of major alterations to Indiana high school soccer — one aimed at removing the sting of unbalanced rest in regionals and the other intended to soften the sting of lopsided games – are being hailed by area coaches.

The IHSAA executive committee has approved midweek regional semifinals, as opposed to the previous format of playing both regional rounds on a Saturday, and has added a mercy rule for all regular-season and postseason contests.
