ELKHART — It’s safe to say that Sam Pawlak needed a step in the right direction. To be more specific, he needed eight steps.

Pawlak, a Jimtown junior, has been eyeballing the school’s high jump record for two seasons, a mark of 6 feet, 4 inches set in 1971. Jimmie athletes have had 45 years worth of trying to break Bob Spaugh’s mark.
