Ronald Rief

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Ronald W. Rief, 74, of Fort Myers, formerly of Elkhart, passed away unexpectedly June 11, 2019, in Punta Gorda, Florida.

Ron was born Nov. 24, 1944, in Elkhart, to Walter Rief Jr. and Elizabeth Lennox Rief Warner.

He married Diane Kindle on May 9, 1964, in Ringgold, Georgia. She survives along with their son, Marc A. (Johnna Schrock) Rief of Vandalia, Michigan; sister Cheryl W. (Michael) Books of Sun City, Arizona; grandchildren Emillea, Carter and Kindall Rief and Austin M. Ham.

He was preceded in death by daughter Michele L. (Allen) Medford and granddaughter Alexis M. Ham, as well as his parents.

Ron graduated from Elkhart High School in 1963, and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force.

He was regional sales manager for Aker Plastics, Plymouth, until his retirement in 2002.

He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Elkhart and retired to Florida with Diane in 2004.

He loved spending time with his family and friends, attending car shows, boating and traveling.

There will be a Requiem Mass at 6 p.m. Friday, July 5, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 226 W. Lexington Ave., Elkhart, with visitation one hour prior.

There will be a celebration of life following the service from 7- 9:30 p.m. at 1040 All Pro Drive, Elkhart.

All family friends are invited to come and celebrate the great times shared with Ron.

Donations may be made in Ron’s memory to the Mennonite Foundation, P.O. Box 483, Goshen, IN 46527-0483. Put “What’s Next Alexis Ham Fund” in the memo line. This fund provides scholarships to special needs children who could not otherwise attend Camp Millhouse.
