ELKHART — Loretta Pearl Simmons, 92, passed away Friday, June 7, 2019, at Hubbard Hill Estates.

She was born Aug. 3, 1926, in Hopedale, Ilinois, to the late Albert and Agnes (Zehr) Zehr. On Nov. 4, 1954, in Elkhart she married Gene Simmons; he preceded her in death on Oct. 9, 1999.

Surviving is one son, Brian (Bonnie) Simmons of Leesville, South Carolina; and four grandchildren, Jared (Mary Claire) Simmons of Marietta, Georgia, Andrew (Stefanie) Simmons of Laurel, Maryland, Lindi (Matthew) Wilson of Edwardsville, Illinois, and Aubrey (Zachary) Fisk of Winston Salem, North Carolina. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren and a sister, Marcella Zehr of Flanagan, Illinois.

Loretta received degrees from Goshen College and IUSB and was a member of First Baptist Church of Elkhart and Christian Lights Sunday School Class. She retired after 38 years of service as a teacher with the Elkhart Community School Systems. From 1987 to 2005 she continued teaching as a substitute teacher.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, funeral service at First Baptist Church of Elkhart. The Rev. Phil Byars will preside and burial will be private at a later date in Prairie Street Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to First Baptist Church of Elkhart, 53953 C.R. 17, Bristol, IN 46507.
