CASSOPOLIS — A child died after a farming accident north of Cassopolis on Wednesday afternoon.

Around 3:30 p.m., the young boy was riding on a piece of farm equipment in the 19000 block of Dewey Lake Street north of Cassopolis when he fell off and landed underneath it.

The implement rolled partially onto the boy after he fell off and crushed him, according to the Cass County Sheriff's Department.

A PrideCare Ambulance rushed the boy to Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac, where he was pronounced dead.

The Wayne Township Fire Department also assisted on the scene. Police were still investigating the accident Wednesday evening.
