ELKHART — A woman from Niles, Michigan, was killed in a head-on collision Monday afternoon on Old U.S. Highway 20 just west of Elkhart.
Sharon Ann Hedrick, 68, died in the crash, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff's Office. Two others were injured in the three-vehicle crash about 4:10 p.m.
Investigators said Hedrick was traveling east on the highway just west of C.R. 3 when her 2014 Jeep Compass drifted left of center and into the eastbound lane.
She sideswiped the driver's side of a single-axle trailer being pulled by a 2008 Honda Ridgeline. That driver was not injured, police said.
After striking the trailer, the Jeep continued east in the westbound lane and struck a box truck head-on, police said. The Jeep then ran off the north side of the highway and struck an AEP utility pole.
A passenger in Jeep, Codie Ward, 26, of Elkhart, was transported to Elkhart General Hospital with a head injury. The driver of the third vehicle, John Wallace Bass, 54, of Huntington, was transported to the hospital for a complaint of back and side pain.
All those involved in the crash were wearing seat belts, police said.
