Elkhart school board member Dacey Davis, Superintendent Steve Thalheimer and Elkhart High School West mathematics department chair Alex Holtz host a virtual forum via Zoom urging voters to vote yes on the district’s upcoming referendum on May 4.

ELKHART — Elkhart Community Schools has seen about a 40 percent turnover rate in certified staff over the last four years, according to school leaders, who see that trend continuing if the district’s upcoming referendum does not pass.

“I have had staff tell me, ‘I believe what we’re doing here and I care about the students in Elkhart and I like the people I work with, but I don’t know if I can continue to stay here,’” Superintendent Steve Thalheimer said.
