ELKHART — An Elkhart man was injured Saturday as a result of a crash between his scooter and a Mazda CX5, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office.

Jason Hamsher, 43, was traveling west on Roseland Road east of Fields Farm Trail, just north of the Elkhart city limit, around 3:12 p.m.

The driver of the Mazda, 22-year-old Joy Hurd of Elkhart, was traveling east on Roseland Road and failed to yield the right of way when turning left to Fields Farm Trail in the path of travel for Hamsher, leading to the crash, police said.

According to police, Hamsher had a partial amputation to his ankle at Memorial Hospital in South Bend. The scooter, a 2011 Taotao, was totaled.

Hurd was cited for failure to yield the right of way and was not injured.
