MOTTVILLE TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A police K-9 helped locate an 18-year-old who led police on a pursuit near the St. Joseph River and then ran away after crashing.
St. Joseph County, Mich., sheriff deputies attempted to pull over the Constantine man for speeding on Riverside Drive near Mann Road, which is just south of the St. Joseph River. The driver took off at high speed in his gray Pontiac sedan westbound on Riverside Drive from Vistula Road, according to a St. Joseph County Sheriff's Department press release.
The suspect veered into a field off the north side of Riverside Drive near Oxbow Lane, drove through the yards of several residences in the area before getting hung up in a stand of small trees. He then ran away on foot and police lost track of him.
A White Pigeon Police Department K-9 located the suspect hiding behind a house on Oxbow Lane near the river.
Police determined the suspect, whose name was not released pending arraignment, was driving on a suspended license and was wanted for several arrest warrants. He was arrested on charges of eluding police, resisting police, destruction of property and driving with a suspended license in addition to the warrants.
The Constantine Police Department and Michigan State Police also assisted with the chase.
