GOSHEN — A former Nappanee man is on trial this week on child molesting charges following his extradition from Canada.
Badre Faridi, 39, faces three counts of child molesting, one as a Class A felony and two as a Class C. The alleged incidents occurred sometime between January and September 2006 in Elkhart County, involving a victim who was under age 10 at the time.
Jury selection began Monday in Elkhart County Superior Court 3.
A warrant for Faridi’s arrest was issued in October 2006, with bond set at $100,000. Court records show that a notice sent to his address the following month was returned, marked “returned to sender.”
There was no activity on his case after that until September 2017, when a judge allowed the charges against him to be amended to show the correct Indiana Code citation. During a hearing on that amendment, prosecutors informed the court that Faridi was going to be extradited from Canada.
He wasn’t in local custody until April 2018. Jail records show that an immigration detainer has been placed on him.
