ELKHART — A passenger was killed and four others were injured Saturday in a chain-reaction crash involving a group of motorcycles at U.S. 20 and C.R. 21 near Elcona Country Club.
Angela Gatto, 47, of Goshen was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police were called about 7 p.m., according to a report from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office.
Several motorcycles were traveling west on U.S. 20 when a 2014 Harley-Davidson driven by Ignacio Orona Jr., 44, of Osceola stopped in a turn lane to make a left turn south onto C.R. 21.
It was rear-ended by a 2015 Harley-Davidson driven by William Hall, 40, of South Bend, which caused a chain reaction involving third motorcycle, a 2008 Honda FLS driven by Miguel Nunez, 35, of Elkhart.
Hall was transported to Elkhart General Hospital with a possible concussion, broken arm or wrist and possible internal bleeding.
Orona was taken to South Bend Memorial Hospital with a broken pelvis, lacerations and a possible head injury.
Nunez also was transported to Memorial with lacerations, minor fractures and a possible minor head injury, police said.
A passenger on Nunez’s motorcycle, Desiree Wiser, 32, of Elkhart, suffered injuries to her hips, back and waist. She was transported to Goshen Hospital.
Gatto was a passenger on Orona’s vehicle, the report said.
