JONES, Mich. — An Elkhart man drove into a pond after experiencing a medical issue Tuesday morning, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
Alfred Hooker, 51, was traveling north on M-40 when he began to have an unknown medical problem. According to police, he became dizzy and attempted to pull to the side of the road. But his vehicle left the road to the right and entered a pond north of Bair Lake Street around 6:30 a.m.
Hooker was able to exit the vehicle and get to shore and was assisted by a passer-by, according to police.
Police said Hooker was wearing a seat belt and that alcohol was not a factor in the crash. Hooker was transported to hospital.
