ELKHART — No law enforcement action will be taken against a woman found unresponsive after her vehicle went into Simonton Lake on Sunday afternoon.

Terina Vail, 48, of Jones, Michigan, was driving north on S.R. 19 around 2:45 p.m. when her 2016 Jeep Wrangler left the roadway for unknown reasons.

According to a news release issued by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office, the vehicle struck a residence at 51400 S.R. 19 and continued down the embankment, striking a tree before entering the water and becoming partially submerged.

There was heavy water damage as well as damage to the roof of the vehicle.

Vail was found to be unconscious and not breathing and was transported to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment. The hospital declined to give a report on the woman’s condition Monday.

The crash was caused by a medical issue and no law enforcement action will be taken, according to the sheriff’s office.
