Man killed in police chase named

ELKHART — Cory Wright, 29, of South Bend, was named Monday as the man who died in a crash following a police chase over the weekend in Elkhart County.

Officers of the Elkhart City Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle at 6:23 a.m. Saturday near Bristol Street and C.R. 5. When the vehicle, driven by Wright, refused to stop, police began a pursuit. The pursuit continued east on Bristol Street then north on C.R. 5 until the vehicle struck concrete barricades at the end of C.R. 5, police said.

Officers attempted lifesaving measures on Wright that were unsuccessful and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the report. 

The case was transferred to the Elkhart County Homicide Unit for investigation. Updates and more information about the case will be issued by the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office, police said.
