MILFORD — A head-on collision south of the Elkhart County line resulted in the death of a Bethany Christian Schools senior Saturday.
KeShawn Smith, 18, of Goshen was pronounced dead at the scene by the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the collision occurred in the 8400 block of north S.R. 15 shortly after 5 p.m.
Bethany Christian Schools posted a photo of Smith on its Facebook page along with a comment: “We will miss his ready smile, big heart, and great laugh. Keep the family and the BCS community in your prayers as we grieve this tremendous loss.”
Smith, a senior, played basketball and soccer for the Bruins.
Preliminary results of the investigation indicate Smith was traveling south in a 2002 Honda Civic and appeared to have crossed the center line, police said. His vehicle collided with a northbound 2013 Ford Expedition driven by Ramiro Mendoza Fajardo, 30, of Goshen. The Expedition was towing a 2014 Jeep Commander on a car dolly.
Ramiro and his passenger refused medical treatment, according to the police report.
