GOSHEN — Juries in two felony trials held in Goshen this week handed down guilty verdicts within minutes of each other Wednesday night.

Jurors convicted 16-year-old Byron Harris Jr., Elkhart, of attempted murder for a June 2018 shooting outside a downtown apartment complex. The Level 1 felony carries a sentence of up to 40 years in prison. His sentencing was set for June 27.

In another courtroom, a jury found Badre Faridi, 39, formerly of Nappanee, guilty of three counts of child molesting for incidents that occurred between January and September 2006 in Elkhart County, involving a victim who was under age 10. The one Class A felony and two Class C felonies represent total prison time of up to 68 years.

He also will be sentenced within 30 days.

Both juries reached their decisions at around 8 p.m., after close to seven hours of deliberation. The trials both started Monday, one in Elkhart County Circuit Court and the other in Superior Court 3.
