Goshen School Board moves forward with budget plan

GOSHEN — Goshen Community Schools is closer to submitting its budget for the 2018-19 school year to the state.

The school board held a second hearing after voting to advertise the district’s figures at the Aug. 27 meeting.

The total proposed 2019 budget for Goshen Community Schools is estimated at $71.2 million.

The spending plan for the school corporation includes a newly created education fund budgeted $40.5 million and the new operations fund is listed at $16.3 million.

The proposed budget also includes $1.75 million for the rainy day fund, $7.78 million for the debt service fund, $1.2 million for the referendum debt fund and $3.5 million for the referendum fund.

Overall, the proposed 2019 budget is over $4 million less than the 2018 proposed budget, which totaled $75.2 million.

The board will vote on whether to adopt the budget at its Oct. 8 meeting and then submit the spending plan to the Indiana Department of Local Government Finance for review.
