Four held after standoff with Goshen police

GOSHEN — A standoff with police ended Wednesday morning when four people were taken into custody outside a downtown apartment building.

Goshen officers responded to a report of an armed robbery of a vehicle about 7:10 a.m. in the area of Cottage and Lincoln avenues.

According to a police department statement, a vehicle matching the description provided by the victim was observed in front of the building at 111 S. Cottage Ave. Officers observed a subject exit the vehicle and enter the upstairs apartment of the residence.

One male subject exited the residence and was taken into custody by Goshen officers. The remaining three people refused to exit the home, police said. A perimeter was established and the Elkhart County SWAT team was called to assist.

By about 10 a.m., the remaining three people were taken into custody without incident, according to police. All four were transported to the Goshen Police Department.

No additional information was being released as the investigation continued, police said.
