WARSAW — A Mishawaka man has been charged in the drug-related death of a fellow Kosciusko County Jail inmate.
Christopher Aaron Susaraba, 28, is the first person in the county to face Level 1 felony charges of dealing in a controlled substance resulting in death, the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Office said Friday. He also is charged with a Level 5 felony count of trafficking with an inmate.
Dennis McCrory, 39, of Warsaw, died as the result of a drug overdose while in jail on March 9.
Police said their investigation determined Susaraba hid methamphetamine and heroin in a body cavity prior to his incarceration. Witnesses said Susaraba provided narcotics to McCrory in a jail cell block, according to the report.
Jail officers initiated life-saving measures on McCrory after being alerted to his condition. Narcan was administered without effect, police said, and an autopsy indicated McCrory died from acute mixed drug intoxication.
Susaraba has been incarcerated in the Kosciusko County Jail since March 6 when he was booked on a charge of failure to appear on initial charges of methamphetamine and paraphernalia possession.
An initial hearing has yet to be scheduled for the new charges, according to public information officer Sgt. Christopher M. Francis.
