JONES, Mich. — An Elkhart woman is accused of running away from a crash inside a campground south of Jones, Mich., on Saturday evening while drunk.

The Cass County Sheriff's Department K-9 Faust captured her laying down in a wooded area nearby.

The crash happened around 6:55 p.m. in the Lakeside Campground at 12808 Prang St. near Bair Lake. After the crash, a 43-year-old Elkhart woman got into an argument with witnesses and then ran off into the woods, according to a sheriff's department press release.

Faust and other Cass County sheriff deputies tracked the woman into the woods for about 10 minutes before locating her laying down in the woods. After she was treated for minor injuries by Newburg Township Ambulance, the suspect was transported to the Cass County Jail.

She remained in custody on Sunday with charges of operating while intoxicated causing a crash, driving with an open container of alcohol and leaving the scene of a crash. Her name will not be released until she appears in court for arraignment.

Just another reason for us dog lovers to rejoice. A dedicated canine police dog gets another dangerous person off the street.
