ELKHART — David Damerow has been named publisher of The Elkhart Truth, Paxton Media Group announced Monday.
“I am pleased to announce David Damerow as the new publisher of The Elkhart Truth,” said David Holgate, PMG Group President, IN/MI Group. “David comes with an extensive background of customer service and community involvement. I am confident that the community will quickly learn what an asset he will be to Elkhart and Elkhart County.”
Damerow is relocating with his family from Searcy, Arkansas, where he was publisher of The Daily Citizen, also owned by Paxton Media Group. He said his emphasis would be on strengthening the ties between the newspaper and the community it serves.
“I’m very community-minded,” Damerow said. “Whatever the relationship is here between the community and the newspaper, I want to make it better and get more involved.”
He said he sees the role of the newspaper as providing the unbiased information the community needs to make critical choices about its future.
“Our job is to put the news out there and help educate our readers so when issues arise we can have an intelligent discussion about them,” he said. “The newspaper is uniquely qualified to be that vehicle for discussion.”
Damerow grew up on his family’s farm in the Wisconsin-Minnesota region. He earned a degree in marketing and journalism and has been involved in the newspaper industry since the early 1990s. His connections with northeast Indiana include the birth of his oldest daughter in Fort Wayne.
He and his wife, Allyson, have four children, 21-year-old Mackenzie; 18-year-old Kai, who is in the Army and will soon be deployed to Poland; and 14-year-old twins Alex and Marissa, who will be entering their freshman year of high school in the fall.
Damerow’s family plans to join him in the Elkhart area as soon as their house in Arkansas is sold, he said.
Damerow fills a vacancy left by the retirement of Faye Murry, who retired and moved to Kentucky to be closer to her children and grandchildren.
