Collision on Old U.S. 20 injures four people

ELKHART — A collision on Old U.S. 20 east of C.R. 1 left four people injured Sunday when a passenger vehicle veered into the lane of a pickup truck traveling the opposite direction.

The crash happened about 12:30 p.m. west of the city, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.

Patrol officer Andrew Miller, in his report, said James Bartley III, 32, of Fort Wayne, driving a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix, was traveling east when he veered left of center and struck Trevor Ambrose, 22, of Elkhart, driving a westbound 2000 Chevrolet Silverado.

Both drivers and passengers in their vehicles were transported to Elkhart General Hospital for a variety of non-life-threatening injuries, the report said. All four victims were wearing seat belts.

Police are requesting charges against Bartley, the report said, including a habitual traffic violator, driving left of center and speed too fast to avoid a collision.
