GOSHEN — A freak accident north of Millersburg sent a motorcyclist to an area hospital with a leg fracture Saturday.
An SUV was traveling northbound on S.R. 13 near C.R. 34 when one of its tires blew, according to an Elkhart County Sheriff's Department press release. The 47-year-old man from White Pigeon, Mich., lost control of the SUV and it crossed the center line around 9:35 a.m.
At the same time, a 57-year-old Columbia City man was riding a motorcycle southbound on S.R. 13 and tried to steer away from the oncoming SUV. However, the SUV clipped the back tire of his motorcycle, causing him to lose control and lay the motorcycle onto its side.
The motorcyclist was transported to IU Health Goshen Hospital for fractures to his right leg. He was not wearing a helmet.
The driver of the SUV, who was not injured, was cited for not wearing a seatbelt and for driving with a suspended license.
