Chris Snyder swearing in

On Jan. 4, 2019, then-Mayor Tim Neese swore in Chris Snyder as Chief of the Elkhart Police Department.

ELKHART — Making the decision to retire wasn't easy for Chris Snyder, who spent 24 years with the Elkhart Police Department. Around noon on Friday — his first day as a retired officer — it hadn't really sunk in yet, he said. But he is trying.

"I can tell you, I've played two rounds of golf since yesterday afternoon, and that's great," he said, laughing.
