Hively railroad overpass traffic flow

The proposed design for the Hively Avenue railroad overpass would result in a bridge going across Main Street, the railroad and Hammond Avenue just south of the existing crossing.

ELKHART — More than 20 properties, most of them homes, would be demolished under a plan for a railroad overpass at Hively Avenue.

The City of Elkhart and Indiana Department of Transportation presented the plan Tuesday evening after having previously sought the public’s input on four options. The design that was chosen would have Hively curve south slightly between Monger Avenue and Warren Street, with the roadway between those streets being removed. Hively Avenue would then go over Main Street, the railroad and Hammond Avenue.

Hively railroad overpass and others

Current plans would result in new overpasses at Hively Avenue and Sunnyside Avenue, while the crossings and Lusher Avenue and C.R. 13 would be closed.

Hively railroad overpass relocations and acquisitions

The current design for the Hively overpass would result in acquisitions and relocations for 21 homes and five businesses.

Good article. The various maps were helpful in seeing what is going to be affected by the construction. Hope the home owners and businesses are adequately compensated.
