MIDDLEBURY — Each year, United Motor Coach Association (UMA) asks their members and associate members to submit nominations of outstanding motorcoach operators to be recognized during the UMA Leadership Awards Banquet at the Annual Expo which was held in San Antonio Texas from Jan. 6-10. This year, Cardinal Buses, headquartered in Middlebury, with additional facilities in Mishawaka and Holland, Michigan, was the recipient of the UMA Vision Award for large fleet operators.
The Vision Award recognizes companies who: Engage in sound business practices. Have an Excellent Safety Record. Regularly employ innovative marketing, operations, and customer service approaches. Are a good corporate citizen within the community. Raise the standards for all motorcoach companies. Raise the profile of the entire motorcoach industry, and are financially sound.
Nominated by ABC Companies, the exclusive US distributor for Vanhool motorcoaches, this three generation family-owned business takes an “old school” approach in operating their business with honesty and integrity by following the rules and charging a fair price for their services, according to a press release announcing the award.
This 95-year-old company continues to provide the same service today as they did in their first year-almost a century ago. Without forward thinking, this longevity would not have been possible.
There have been numerous changes through the decades but Cardinal consistently provides top notch service with comfortable, modern equipment and a preventative maintenance program. Their Middlebury and Holland, Michigan locations are staffed with professional motorcoach maintenance technicians to keep their equipment in top mechanical condition. Their bus charters are driven by uniformed professional drivers who receive ongoing training and are monitored by a full time safety director to insure compliance with all state and federal charter bus regulations.
“Nominating Cardinal Buses for this award was a no-brainer,” said Aaron Babcock, ABC Companies Account Manager. “I believe the most important take-away for other operators is that longevity is not a sprint … it’s a marathon. By staying true to their family values and their commitment to exemplify the highest standard, Cardinal will continue to be a mainstay in our industry for decades to come.”
Dan Shoup, Vice President of Cardinal, commented, “It was a great honor for us to receive this Vision Award through UMA. By focusing on our customer’s vision of what an excellent travel experience should be, we are able to create our own Cardinal Buses Vision and set our standards of excellence to uphold for our customers.”
