Elkhart Truth Jan 9, 1909, county issue

The Jan. 9, 1909, issue of The Elkhart Truth carried a story about a bill that would have Elkhart and its surrounding townships leave Elkhart County, in part due to the lack of a county courthouse in town.

ELKHART — The last time downtown Elkhart did not have a county courthouse, some in the city sought to form a county of their own.

One hundred eleven years later, it seems likely that the city will soon be without a county courthouse again.

Elkhart City Hall drone
