GOSHEN — Three days shy of his 99th birthday, Luke Birky joined other Greencroft residents Tuesday in rolling up their sleeves to help fight the coronavirus.

About 400 COVID-19 vaccines were given to residents and staff members at the retirement community, part of the next phase of vaccine rollout in Elkhart County. It was the first step toward allowing visits and other normal activities to resume, said Aimee Riemke, vice president of marketing for Greencroft Communities.
