Face mask outbreak

GOSHEN — Backlash over the face mask mandate from the Elkhart County Health Department was quick, loud and not surprising to local leaders.

County Health Officer Dr. Lydia Mertz signed a public health order Monday requiring the use of masks in public places where it’s hard for people to stay at least 6 feet apart. The order is meant to prevent the transmission of COVID-19 through talking, coughing and other common actions that spread respiratory droplets.
