County to scrap its solid waste district

Elkhart County will dissolve its Solid Waste Management District with the county Board of Commissioners taking over most of those duties, including promotion of recycling.

GOSHEN — Elkhart County could become the second county in the state to scrap its Solid Waste Management District after a vote this week by the Board of Commissioners.

The commissioners approved a preliminary resolution that puts the county on the road to dissolving the district by the end of the year. The role of the Solid Waste Advisory Board, which now includes the commissioners and other elected officials, would be assumed by the county commissioners themselves.

So the County is just doing away with a board that does very little. That certainly doesn't sound like it is doing away with the premise!
