GOSHEN — A dwindling number of users has prompted county officials to cut $1 million from the community corrections budget.

Elkhart County Council passed a $1.7 million budget for the department that oversees alternative sentencing programs for work release and home detention. The original request was for $2.7 million, which Councilman Randy Yohn said he wanted to adjust in light of the dwindling number of commitments from judges over the past year.
