GOSHEN — The Elkhart County Board of Health on Thursday discussed a leading candidate for the new health officer.
Current Health Officer Lydia Mertz will retire at the end of this year. Several board members recently met with Bethany Wait, a physician from Goshen, to speak with her about her interest in the job, according to board President Randy Cammenga.
The health board members are, by Indiana law appointed by county executives. Get the state law changed Rev. And of course be prepared to hold special elections if a heath board member decides to resign.

If this is indeed the *elkhart county health department" shouldn't there be a vote by the residents of Elkhart county whom the next official is
OR
Should we rename it the Indiana Health Department, Elkhart county branch if it's just a branch of state government
