HAMMOND — A former Elkhart woman, awaiting sentencing after admitting that she helped smuggle valuables overseas to finance the Islamic State, says in her diary she is not a victim but nor is she a terrorist.

Samantha Elhassani, 34, is still waiting to be sentenced after pleading guilty in November to financing terrorism. She admitted to helping her husband and his brother join the Islamic State by smuggling valuables to Hong Kong during three trips in 2014 and 2015.
