ELKHART – An autopsy was completed on the victim of a mobile home fire on Thanksgiving morning.
According to James P. Ellliott, Elkhart County coroner, the cause and manner of death are pending further testing.
"We do not have a positive ID on the deceased at this time," Elliott said in a press release. "We are waiting on dental records to do a comparison."
The dental records will not be available until Monday.
"We will have no further information until at least Monday afternoon," Elliott said. "We will send out another press release once ID is made."
According to a press release earlier in the week, the Elkhart County Coroner's’ Office was dispatched to the 2900 block of Woodsage Street in Elkhart, Thursday morning at about 3 a.m. after a body was found by firefighters on the scene.
According to a fire incident report provided by the Elkhart Fire Department, crews were dispatched at 12:59 a.m. to the single family residence for a structure fire. Upon arrival of the first unit on scene, flames were observed coming through the roof.
The fire was extinguished quickly.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
