GOSHEN — An Elkhart teen convicted of a murder committed when he was 13 has received a 63-year prison sentence.

Alphonso James III, now 16, was convicted of killing 18-year-old Jaren Minies in Elkhart on Sept. 12, 2018. Minies was shot multiple times during a deal to trade an Xbox for a handgun, and died within minutes despite efforts by witnesses to rush him to the hospital.
