ELKHART — An Elkhart man and his dogs escaped injury when a fire broke out in his home Friday afternoon.

Firefighters responded to 1813 Borneman Ave. shortly before 3 p.m. for a report of heavy smoke and fire. They found flames coming out at the rear of the house but had them under control within minutes.
