ELKHART _ Elkhart Fire Department responded to a house fire at a residence in the 400 block of North Third Street shortly after 4 a.m. Saturday.
According to the incident report provided by the Elkhart Fire Department, the fire is believed to have originated outside the home, in an enclosed area between the house and the garage.
"Upon arrival, fire crews found smoke and flames outside the structure between the house and garage," Officer Brian Miller reported. "After a short time, crews were able to gain control of the fire and then achieve complete extinguishment."
Crews arrived on scene at about 4:08 a.m. and the fire was under control at 4:40 a.m. Four engines, an aerial unit and 4 other vehicles responded.
The house was occupied, but no injuries were noted on the report andfire fighters did not have to alert the occupants.
While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, the damage was estimated at $25,000, about half of the $50,000 value of the building, according to the incident report.
