ELKHART — Elkhart firefighters were called to an apartment fire at 1205 Georgia Boulevard on Thursday evening, according to the Elkhart Fire Department.

The department was called to the fire at 10:37 p.m. and found flames coming from the front first floor window.

Firefighters entered through the front door and quickly extinguished the fire in the living room before moving to the second floor, where they found high heat but no fire.

They then pulled down some of the ceiling and found a large amount of fire in the attic, which they quickly extinguished.

The occupants of the apartment were home at the time of the fire and evacuated before firefighters arrived.

Occupants of three apartments were displaced and are receiving assistance through The American Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is now under investigation.
