WESTVILLE — An Elkhart man serving a 60-year sentence after he admitted to a 1996 murder is asking to finish his time on house arrest for the sake of his health.

Tavario Baskin, 42, pleaded guilty to the fatal shooting of Matthew Middleton on March 2, 1996. Middleton died in a hospital several hours after being shot when he and Baskin, then age 17, struggled over a handgun during a robbery attempt.
