Crews quickly extinguish fire in Elkhart Monday

ELKHART – Elkhart firefighters quickly extinguished a second-story fire in a residence Monday afternoon.

The Elkhart Fire Department responded to a residence at 718 Mason St. just after 3 p.m. for a report of visible smoke, according to information from investigator Tony Balzano. Firefighters could see the smoke when they arrived.

Crews entered the rear of the building and advanced to the second floor. They had the fire under control within half an hour.

No one was in the residence at the time of the fire, which caused damage to about two-thirds of the building. The cause of the fire is undetermined.
