GOSHEN — A judge issued warrants for two absent witnesses as the trial got underway for an Elkhart teen accused of murder in 2018.

Alphonso James III, 15, is accused of killing 18-year-old Jaren Minies outside a 10th Street home around 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 12, 2018. James was arrested in Ithaca, New York, and transferred to Elkhart County months after the fatal shooting.
