Adrienne Thomas, Tobacco Control of Elkhart County project manager at the county Health Department, speaks to the city Public Health and Safety Committee Wednesday.

ELKHART — City leaders chose to seek more feedback after getting a largely negative reaction to the thought of carving out a new exception to the smoking ban.

The Elkhart Public Health and Safety Committee on Wednesday discussed an amendment to the 2008 anti-smoking ordinance that would add cigar bars to the list of exemptions. The committee will schedule another meeting before it votes to give the proposal a positive or negative recommendation when it comes before city council as a whole.
