GOSHEN — An average of five Indiana residents die of a drug overdose every day.

In Elkhart County, between 20 and 30 people a year die from an overdose, according to state data. To help keep the memory of those people alive, the friends and relatives of local overdose victims released dozens of balloons in downtown Goshen on Friday, just ahead of International Overdose Awareness Day.
